- Positioning
The technologist positions each breast on the imaging platform. Compression lasts only a few seconds per view — firm, but brief.
- The 3D sweep
The X-ray arm sweeps in a small arc, capturing thin image slices through the breast tissue — this is what lets 3D mammography see through overlapping tissue.
- Review and report
A radiologist reviews your images promptly, and we'll tell you clearly if any additional views or an ultrasound correlation would help.
How to prepare
- Skip talcum powder, cream and deodorant on the chest area on the day of the scan — they can appear on the images.
- Wear a two-piece outfit so only the top needs to come off.
- If you're still menstruating, the week after your period is usually the most comfortable time.
- Bring any previous mammograms — comparing year on year is one of the most powerful tools we have.
